New Chat Rooms

Many of you already know this. About.com is cancelling its chat rooms beginning Monday, March 1. Because of this change, I have set up new rooms for us to use. The new address for chat is:

http://stepchat.com/abuse/

When you go to this page, you'll see a page similar to the current chat pages, with links to all four chat rooms, Guidelines, links back to the site, and info about passwords and hosts. Just click on the link, register your nickname if you'd like to (that's not necessary), and start chatting.

Here's a link to the new chat rooms: New Incest/Abuse Chat Rooms. Please bookmark this page, or save it under your favorites so you can return to it easily.

There will be links to the new rooms from the current chat room pages. For instance, Chat will have links to the new rooms. I will place a link in the Essentials Box that is in the upper left corner of our main site page. And, of course, you can always email me with any questions or concerns you have.

The first room is not password-protected. The other three rooms are password-protected; the passwords are exactly the same as the passwords you use now. The same hosts you are used to in the old rooms are moving to the new rooms. All the rules and Guidelines for the rooms remain the same.

There are some changes in the new rooms. Whispering is no longer an option. But we still have p2p capability, plus lots of symbols and colors to play with. To p2p with someone, just double click on their name in the member's list. To get to the other rooms, there's a 'Rooms' tab right above the member's name list. Click on that and you'll see a list of the other rooms. Double click on the room you want to go to, and a box will appear asking for the password, exactly the way it is now. Then you will be in the new room. Unfortunately, I don't currently see a way for us to be in two rooms at the same time. I will investigate and see if I can change this. The Ignore function remains the same.

Our forums and the main site itself are remaining exactly the same. To read my articles and see links around the internet that I believe are helpful, see Incest/Abuse Support Main Site. To get to the forums, see Incest/Abuse Support Forums. Only the chat rooms are changing.

There's another new feature in these new rooms. To help defray the monthly cost of the rooms, Buddy T (Alcoholism Guide at About.com) and I are setting up a 'donations basket'. Donations are totally optional. If you can afford to donate a dollar or two, please do so. If you can't, that's just fine.

I think this will be a positive change, with fewer problems and fewer trolls. You will find many of the same features in the new rooms, as well as the same friends and hosts who help and support you now. If you have any questions about the new chat, please let me know. I'll answer as soon as possible.
